NANNY LOCATION:
BEAVERTON

EXPERIENCE: NEWBORNS-13 YEARS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: Consistency is very important so I like to use the parents' method of discipline. In general though, I believe in positive reinforcement, time-outs with discussing why the child is there and two warnings before-hand (1 minute for every year old beginning roughly when they are 2 years old depending on the child), and taking away privileges (depending on age).

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF... My daughter will be just starting Kindergarten so I will probably be reminiscing about how she was today. Hopefully I will have at least one children's book published by then and my husband and I will own a house. I see myself as still being a nanny or possibly owning a small kennel for dogs, cats, bunnies, etc.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE: I have brief experience babysitting a boy with Down Syndrome and a couple of children with food allergies. I was also a study buddy to a first-grade boy with a speech impairment.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: I took 3 years of Spanish in high school, and 1 semester in college, but I am better at reading Spanish rather than speaking it. My infant daughter and I are also learning a few basic signs in sign language.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I would love to find another wonderful family to work for that would be comfortable having me bring my 9-month-old daughter with me, as she is still breastfeeding. The last family I worked for had one daughter that absolutely adored having a playmate (and vice versa). I have a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies-Elementary Education and am certified in CPR and First Aid.

NANNY LOCATION: PORTLAND

EXPERIENCE:
NEWBORNS-TEENS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: I discuss or write a journal prior to each particular position--depending on the parents' scenario and family situation in order for families to view any ideas I may have prior to the position in regards of discipline.  At that point I do ask for suggestions and try to figure out what style the family has in order for me to be able to adapt seamlessly.  I do not believe in yelling or spanking.  I do try to be consistent. I respect each child's needs.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...In 5 years from now, I see myself still working in my avocation as a professional nanny.   I my "prior life" I was a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist which translates wonderfully in working with children.  That, in addition to raising my own 3 children and 4 grandchildren, I feel I make a pretty great long-term nanny.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  I have worked with children who are developmentally challenged, speech delayed, autistic, hyperactive, emotionally disturbed, diabetic, and children with various life threatening diseases.  I have administered medications and have been in charge on medication monitoring.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: None, but I have traveled throughout the world and have a good ear for languages and can easily pick upon meaning quite easily.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am well educated, love teaching children manners, have 2 1/2 years at the University studying Nursing, and am happy, optimistic, open to input, changes and growth, as well as maintain a good sense of humor.

NANNY LOCATION:
BEAVERTON

EXPERIENCE: INFANTS-12 YEARS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: I use time-outs as a last resort of bad behavior after a couple of warnings.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...I'm not sure right now.  I am already married with children.  I have talked about getting into Social Work or OB work.  But my current long-term field is the Nanny Field.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  I have a daughter with A.D.D.  I also had a daughter who was a premie on a heart monitor.  Additionally, I have worked with Autism and have a son who has peanut and asthma related allergies.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: None

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I like to work with small children and families who make their nanny feel welcome and appreciated.  I enjoy taking children outside on walks and outings.  I also tend to help with some housework in order for parents to be able to come home to a cleaner home environment and be able to soley focus on spending time with their children--not worrying about cleaning up and finishing laundry.

NANNY LOCATION: PORTLAND

EXPERIENCE: NEWBORNS-12 YEARS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: Children should have free choices but there should also be limits.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...I would like to have my own daycare.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  A.D.H.D.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: Spanish

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am currently a teacher and have taught in Peru--where I am originally from.  I truly enjoy children and feel this is what I am meant to do.

NANNY LOCATION: VANCOUVER/PORTLAND

EXPERIENCE: NEWBORNS-TEENS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: I feel that it is very important to be consistent with the discipline provided by the parents.  I feel as though the parents and nannies work as a team and need to provide a united front.  During past childcare I have done, if one of the children were to do something wrong, I would ask them to sit down by themselves for a couple of minutes as well as apologize to me or another child for the behavior.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...I am definitely planning on being graduated from college.  Being that I am a communications major, I would like to find a way that I could integrate my experience with children into my focus of study.  I would love to find a career path in communications that involved either writing about children or for them.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  I have done a few temporary nanny positions where I have worked with children with Autism.  I feel that my level of patience allows me to work with children with special needs very well.  I also have a cousin with special needs who I grew up working with, and helping teach him to play softball.  This has helped me understand the mentality and sensitivity of children with special needs.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: I speak a little bit of Spanish, however, I am not fluent.  Although, I would be really eager to learn and have a family I work with who has an English/Italian speaking household; and I always enjoy learning what I can.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I would like to add that I am CPR and First Aid Certified, as well as having a Food Handler's Card.  I have been a nanny for about 6 years and know the importance of this line of work.

NANNY LOCATION: NEWBERG/TIGARD/SHERWOOD

EXPERIENCE: INFANTS-TEENS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: When I need to discipline I make sure that I give 3 warnings first before placing the child in a time-out area. When the child gets older, most of the time discussing the situation/behavior is adequate. But the most important thing would be to make sure that both the parents and nanny agree on one format of discipline to maintain consistency, and stick with that so there is no confusion to the child..

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF......Well, hopefully I am with a family, helping to raise well-rounded children. But in my personal life I tend to take one day at a time, for it always seems to change. But working for a loving family would be my "constant" and forefront of my life.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCENone

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: None

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am open to working with pets as well as children. I tend to "roll with the punches" in life--as I am easy-going. If things change or a spare of the moment issue comes up, I am easily adaptable to change. If a family were to need any last-minute care or family life for them changes somehow, I am open to following any changes necessary. I have been known to be there for people 24/7, and I would say that I am very dependable and reliable--which I truly believe a nanny should always ultimately be. I look forward to starting a lasting relationship with a new long-term family.

NANNY LOCATION:
HILLSBORO

EXPERIENCE: NEWBORNS-12 YEARS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: I believe in positive reinforcement/discipline.  I believe that each child should be free to explore and try out new activities and ideas, but that the adult should be there to guide them through it.  If the child is headed in a nonconstructive direction, the nanny should be there to help the child change to a more positive/constructive play.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...I have worked in the health care field and would like to eventually find a job in health care.  But I have worked with many children for many years and have a lot of experience in this area; so right now, I am committed to working as a nanny until I decide what exactly it is in the health care arena that I would like to persue.  In 5 years, I hope to be married with at least 1 child of my own, living in the Portland area.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  None

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: 4 Years of French in High School, 1 Conversation Spanish Class in College and a Semester of Sign Language

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: NA

NANNY LOCATION: PORTLAND

EXPERIENCE:
NEWBORNS-TEENS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: I believe at whatever the age of the child I'm caring for, it is crucial to be consistent when it comes to discipline.  I think if you don't stick to the rules you set upland the consequences you have established, the child is not going to either; and he/she will not develop respect or trust in you.  However, as the child gets older, and goes through his normal developmental changes, your discipline should dictate his specific needs.  I think time-outs can be effective for toddlers.  When a toddler is not following the rules you have set up, I think you should first tell the child why the behavior is unacceptable, then take him to a designated time-out area.  I do not spank children because it is not effective and is not appropriate.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...I am graduating soon from my undergraduate schooling for college with a major in Education and Bible/Theology.  I hope to either go to graduate school mastering in Education or Counseling.  I have not decided yet, but until then, I am taking a break from school.  I have always wanted to be married and have a family of my own, so those are also some of my future goals.  I am passionate children and would love to have some of my own some day.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  Yes, though not extensively or for a long, significant period of time.  I nannied off and on for a family who had a 13-year-old daughter who was mentally and physically handicapped.  She was in a wheel chair and socially/mentally at a 5-year-old level at the time.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: None Fluently

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I have been a nanny with Karoline's Nannies for over a year now and have truly enjoyed being a nanny so, so much.  I am confident I can connect with children well of a variety of ages and personalities.  I have a particular joy and love for infants and toddlers.  I enjoy just being able to love and care for little ones and appreciate being able to affect them in a postive way during their development.

NANNY LOCATION: VANCOUVER

EXPERIENCE: INFANTS-12 YEARS

DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY: I am big on "Love and Logic" techniques-giving choices, having consequences for misbehaviors.  Time-outs or privilege losses also play a part, depending on the age of the child.

IN 5 YEARS I SEE MYSELF...Graduated from college and in my new career as a sign language interpreter; playing guitar fluently and continuing to take life one day at a time.

SPECIAL NEEDS EXPERIENCE:  My very first nanny job was for a wonderful little boy who has Down Syndrome.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES: No foreign languages, but am pretty great with American Sign Language (ASL).  I am currently going to school for Sign Language Interpretation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I have been working with children for the past 10 years on and off in various different settings.  I volunteer at church, YMCA Childcare, Nanny Positions, and Overnighters.  I am very confident in my ability to handle almost any situation that may arise.  Having a child of my own too, has even broadened my confidence and ability to care for children.  I absolutely love children and believe they are gifts from God.
